There are plenty of nut milk options, but the bottom line is: if you love a nut, then milk it! You can make milks from many different nuts; some of our favorites include almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, and pistachios. Macadamia nut milk tastes amazing but is the most expensive. Almond milk has an amazing flavor too, but it’s worth remembering California’s current drought situation and the fact that one almond takes a gallon of water to grow.
Some of our favorite nut milk recipes are below. You can make either quick nut milks or go the classic route by soaking them overnight. We also have a flaxseed milk recipe for those who are allergic to nuts.
Nut Milk from Soaked Nuts
To make a nut milk from raw nuts, you need to first make a selection from the “Soaking Time Chart” below, then soak your nuts overnight and head over to the “Ingredients & Directions” tab.
Most nuts, seeds, grains, and beans are covered in enzyme inhibitors, natural chemicals, and toxins, which protect them from predators and sprouting prematurely. Some of these inhibitors (such as phytic acid) combine with important minerals like calcium, magnesium, copper, iron, and especially zinc and block their absorption into the body. The protective shell layer also blocks our digestive systems’ ability to break down the nuts, seeds, and beans properly.
When you soak nuts, the enzyme inhibitors, natural chemicals, and toxins are released, giving our bodies a much greater ability to absorb the nutrients and minerals inside the nut, seed or bean. The nut will also taste a lot better once the chemicals and toxins have been released.
Nut Soaking Times Chart
- Almond – 8-12 hours
- Cashew – 2 hours
- Hazelnut – 8 hours
- Macadamia – 8 hours
- Peanut – 8 hours
- Pecan – 4-6 hours
- Pine Nut – 8 hours
- Walnut – 4 hours
- Brazil – no soaking needed
- Pistachio – no soaking needed
Soaking Directions
- Place nuts in a glass container.
- Fill with filtered water.
- Cover with a lid or wrap.
- Leave in a cool spot or the refrigerator for chart’s indicated time.
- Once ready, drain, rinse, and follow instructions in the “Ingredients & Directions” tab.

What can I use to strain the milk?
You have many different options, including a cheesecloth, towel, or even a paper towel, but they do require multiple passes and it can get a little messy. The best option is a proper nut milk bag, which you can find for a great deal online.

The leftover pulp can be used in many different ways. You can add it to smoothies and dips or as a salad or soup topping. You can even use it as the base for energy balls, muffins, or crackers. If you’re not sure how to use it yet, place it in a bag in the freezer.
Chipotle Almond Dip is wonderful and detox-friendly way to use the pulp. You can also use the pulp as a crust for our Blueberry Cheese Cake.

Enjoying a warm drink during this raw food Reset is definitely a possibility. We encourage sitting back, relaxing, and having a nice warm drink when you need a moment to yourself. The drink we’ve included below is detox-friendly, relaxing, and, of course, warming for the soul.
Special Note: To get the most nutrients and health benefits out of your tea, brew it in the fridge overnight. In the morning, warm it over the stove with a finger in the water; it’s ready as soon as you have to remove your finger.
Before we dive into coffee and tea we will explain what caffeine does to your body and how it will affect your Reset.
CAFFEINE 101: Certain teas and coffee have high caffeine content. Caffeine is a substance that is metabolized by our liver through a process that includes oxidation: this means that our liver must safely package and remove caffeine’s compounds from our bodies. As we all know, caffeine is a stimulant which will interfere with your natural sleep and wake cycle, making it difficult to know what your body needs. Caffeine is also is linked to increasing the amount of stress hormones your body releases, ultimately taxing your system. It also interferes with digestion, one of the primary bodily systems we are utilize to help in this Reset.
As you can see, ingesting caffeine will give your body more work to do and can therefore hinder or lessen the overall effectiveness of the Reset.
On top of this, caffeine is a majorly addictive substance from which we aim to free your body and mind. It’s time to regain control of your life!
Coffee
The straight answer for coffee is it will negatively impact on your Reset. Going decaf will also hurt your Reset because of the chemicals and processing used to decaffeinated the coffee.
If you anticipate a withdrawal from coffee, we suggest to heading up to the “Quick Start” section called “Cleansing Reactions or Withdrawals.” We also suggest to give yourself a week prior to the cleanse to slowly wean yourself off coffee.
Tea
The research behind teas is pretty interesting. All forms of dried, store-bought teas have had heat applied to the leaves at some point to help control oxidation, which prevents the herbs from browning. Some of the most beneficial elements in tea are extracted by heat during the process. Also, teas are usually not high quality and often include bleach and outdated herbs. Unless you really get down to the source and pick the leaves yourself, tea won’t have the medicinal and nutritious value that it should. When you make tea, you boil out the nutrition and healthy enzymes.
Don’t get us wrong: tea is amazing and its benefits endless, which is why it’s been in ancient medicines for centuries. The key is finding tea in its purist form.
For some, a nice cup of chamomile before bed will be extremely important to finishing this Reset. If that is you, then please enjoy. It’s not a big deal because it won’t trigger your appetite, and the content inside many teas will not affect the cleansing experience. We do suggest avoiding caffeinated teas for the reasons described above.
Teas to avoid during the Reset:
- Iced
- Green
- Black
- English
- Yerba Mate
- White
- Oolong
- Jasmine
- Decaffeinated teas (These teas go through an intense heating and/or chemical process to be decaffeinate)
Teas that are okay to drink during the cleanse (herbal and flower teas):
- Chamomile
- Dandylion
- Nettles
- Calendula
- Mint
- Fruit (such as raspberry)
If you’re looking for the healthiest tea possible, buy some organic herbs or flowers, make a cold brew, keep it in the fridge, and warm it up when ready.
Cold brews entail collecting the herbs you want and refrigerating them for four or five hours. This makes for nice, flavored water, nutrition still included. You can then warm it up and enjoy the raw health benefits the tea has to offer.
If you want to learn more about how to overcome caffeine withdrawals, head over to “Cleansing Reactions and Withdrawals” in the Beginner’s Guide.
